5/13/11
Progress report 7
1. What have you been doing in relation to your project proposal? I have continued to work on my painting and am close to being finished. I have completed the bottom part of the landscape and am now working on the sky.
2. What have you learned and what challenges have you faced? I have not been progressing as fast as I had planned because I was out for 5 days due to AP testing. Also, since my initial background color was purple it changed the appearance of some of the colors I used. Some of the colors are not as vibrant as I would like.
3. What is your next step? After finishing the sky I will go back and touch up parts of the painting to make it more neat.
4/29/11
Progress report 6
1. What have you been doing in relation to your project proposal? Continued working on my painting- painting flowers, leaves, trees, and birds.
2. What have you learned and what challenges have you faced? I used bright colors for the flowers, but I painted on top of a purple background. The darkness of the background faded the color of the flowers so they are not as vibrant as I would have liked. Since I have been so busy studying for AP exams and mocks recently, I have been not able to devote as much time to working on my painting as I would have liked. I have not adhered to my timeline but I will finish this painting before the art show so I can include it in my panel.
3. What is your next step? Finish the painting- it is mostly the trees and background that need to be finished.
4/8/11
Progress report 5
1. What have you been doing in relation to your project proposal? Working on my painting- painting flowers, inking trees in the background, sketching birds and leaves.
2. What have you learned and what challenges have you faced? Although it is tedious, painting over something several times gives it a nice, clean finish. It also helps fix mistakes and make the color more opaque.
3. What is your next step? Finish painting the landscape by adding more plants and details, and finish the background.
3/18/11
Progress report 4
1. What have you been doing in relation to your project proposal? So far I have been gathering inspiration for my new painting and making sketches of ideas. I have began sketching an outline in pencil on a canvas board.
2. What have you learned and what challenges have you faced? Sketching with pencil on canvas board is imperfect because the ridged texture of the canvas makes line not smooth.
3. What is your next step? I will finish my outline and then begin painting.
3/4/11
Progress report 3
1. What have you been doing in relation to your project proposal? I have been continuing selecting fabrics and cutting and gluing different elements with a focus on color and pattern.
2. What have you learned and what challenges have you faced? It is best to put a base layer of fabric on first. If you cut out small pieces of fabric with detailed edges, it is much harder to cut out fabric that matches the edges to put behind it. Another challenge I have faced is the picture becoming too “busy”. There are so many great fabrics I want to incorporate but I should be more economical so it isn’t visually overwhelming.
3. What is your next step? Finish filling up the page with fabric pieces and then make adjustments like replacing images. Afterwards I will decide on a new project proposal.
2/18/11
Progress report 2
1. What have you been doing in relation to your Project Proposal? I successfully finished my third fabric based piece of my project proposal. Each day I would cut and arrange fabrics from an assortment I had selected. I will photograph and post the pictures on my site this week.
2. What have you learned and what challenges have you faced? I particularly liked the 3-D effect the quilt had in contrast to the flatter fabrics. Sometimes I would experiment with a technique, such as cutting out slivers of tissue paper to make flowers with, but not like the overall effect. This was frustrating sometimes because it was time consuming but eventually I would find a way to portray things in a manner I liked.
3. What is your next step? I think I will edit my project proposal to include a 4th piece. It will be similarĀ and also involve arranging different fabrics because I am enjoying taking textiles of all different purposes and combining them into a picture.
2/3/11
Progress report 1
1. What have you been doing in relation to your Project Proposal? The first piece of my proposal uses tissue paper and I am finished gluing everything on it, but still need to add painting to it. I have completely finished the second piece, which features a multicolor zig zag pattern.
2. What have you learned and what challenges have you faced? It is interesting how instead of planning a picture in my head, the fabric will speak to me and guide me towards my image. For example, my zig zag picture was wholly based on the lines of the fabric. I would have never thought of making such an image if I had not seen the multicolor stripes.
3. What is your next step? I have recently started my third piece, which has a rosy bird theme. So far, I have glued down some of the basic fabrics for the background and am deciding what details to add on top with other papers. I will continue selecting and arranging fabrics to create my collage.

Fall Semester 2010
1/7/11
Progress report 7
After finishing my 3 small abstract panels, I moved on to a larger piece. I have spray painted the background and spent a lot of time using the texture and print of a tissue paper as my material. I have finished getting my basic shapes down, but am unsure of what else I want to do to it. In the meantime, I have been sketching ideas and started on a new piece today. I found some very interesting fabric that comes in a striped pattern in many different colors. I will be experimenting with the lines for my next piece.
12/17/10
Progress report 6
I have finished the two wooden boards from my last project and will be uploading their images over the weekend. This week, I started a new project proposal for 3 abstract paintings on canvas panels. I have completed this project and will be photographing and uploading their images as well.
12/3/10
Progress report 5
I have finished the second piece of last project proposal. I am happy with the results because I took parts of my initial painting that I was not happy with and used it for a border for my new piece. For my new project, I have made sketches of ideas, painted with watercolor, and drawn with ink on one of the panels.
11/12/10
Progress Report 4
For my new project, I am doing 2 18″x24″ pieces. I have completed my first one and am pretty happy with it. I like the choatic mix of multiple colors and sense of movement from the lines. My second piece is a lot different because it is softer in color palette, but will still have layered elements. So far, I have created all of the elements that I plan to collage together. This piece will feature birds.
10/15/10
Progress Report 3
I have finished my second piece. I am happy with the overall result, but I wish I could have made some of the elements look more three-dimensional and detailed. Next week I will start my third piece. I am not sure of what I will put in the center, but I think I will keep doing the same border concept.
10/1/10
Progress report 2
I finished my first piece on Monday, the 27th, 3 days later than I had planned. I have made a good start on my second piece. This one is different in subject, but it shares a similar type of border to the first piece. The inside of the picture is made up of a design of flowers and leaves and the outside border resembles grass. I have done all of the outlining in pencil, except for the inner border, which I am not sure what I want to do with yet. I am about one-third of the way done painting.
9/16/10
Progress report 1
I had originially set my due date for each piece as 1 week, but it is taking me more time than expected to complete my first piece. I have done about half of the outline and a quarter of the painting. However I’m happy with my results so far. I will change my time allotted for each piece to 2 weeks. For my second piece I may choose to focus solely on patterns and prints, which I have become interested in recently.
