Artist Statement

5/20/11

My work uses conventional materials and techniques, which reflects my traditional experience with art. I draw inspiration from interior design and fashion because these fields focus on proportion, patterns and textures, detail, color, and composition. I like to add layers to a piece to create varying degrees of visibility and depth. Often times I will start a piece with a specific image in mind, but during the process I will change so much that the end result is completely different from the original plan.

I think my work has a feminine characteristic to it. My subject choices, line quality, and color schemes create a sense of delicacy. My art also sometimes conveys a feeling of fantasy due to the juxtaposition of unrelated objects and landscapes. The images come from different scenes, but are placed in proximity to each other to create a pieced together effect. Rather than a specific message, I like to express a feeling or mood. The positioning of these independent objects imparts a feeling of being lost or out of place.

Although I do not plan to study art in the future, I hope to continue to pursue it as a hobby. I always want to challenge myself by trying things that are new or out of my comfort zone.
